Brakes are not the place to guess.
Brakes wear slowly, so it's easy to get used to a car that takes a little longer to stop. A brake inspection measures what's left on the pads and rotors and checks the fluid and lines, so you know how much life is left and can plan the repair instead of being surprised by it.
We show you what's worn, tell you what needs replacing now and what can wait, and give you the price before we start.
Austin's stop-and-go traffic is hard on brakes. If you do a lot of city driving, have them checked more often.
Signs your brakes need attention
If you notice any of these, have your brakes checked soon.
- Squealing
Many brake pads have a built-in wear indicator that squeals when the pads are getting thin.
- Grinding
Grinding often means the pads are worn down to metal and are damaging the rotors. Get it checked right away.
- Vibration when braking
A pulsing pedal or a shaking steering wheel when you brake often points to worn or uneven rotors.
- Pulling to one side
Can mean a sticking caliper, a damaged brake hose, or uneven pad wear.
- Soft or sinking pedal
Can mean air or a leak in the brake system. Don't drive it far.
- Brake warning light
Can mean low brake fluid or a problem in the system. Have it checked soon.
Common questions
Something else on your mind? Call (512) 923-4919.
How often should my brakes be inspected?
A good habit is to have them checked at least once a year, and any time you notice noise, vibration, or a change in how the pedal feels.
Do I always need new rotors with new pads?
No. If the rotors are in good shape, they can stay. We measure them and tell you.
Is it safe to drive with grinding brakes?
It isn't a good idea. Grinding usually means metal-on-metal contact, which reduces stopping power and damages the rotors quickly. Call us at (512) 923-4919.
How long does a brake repair take?
Many brake repairs are quick jobs. We'll tell you how long yours will take when we look at it.
